I think drain is fine the way it is, otherwise, the mage has nothing on the
street sam, nothing at all. A mage needs to have some usefulness in combat.
The lower drain makes more sense, IMHO, and allows mages to actually use magic.
One suggestion I just thought of though, is making magic rarer, so that
people are more fearful and intimidated by it. When most people can live
their entire lives without even seeing magic other than on the trid, it is
more interesting. Stress how rare the Priotity As are. Metahumans still
attract stare, how many Millionares does the average person know. Average
Joe on the street should have seen as many Trolls as he has seen mages or
millionares. The special have become much too common on too many games.
Every place hase wards and everything and mages on call these days. Someone
else mentioned how rare such things were. Awakenings mentioned that every
cop patrol had a mage on it. If the number was reduced the each precinct had
1-3 mages on it, the mage runner becomes more powerful without having to
mess with drain or giiving them special and cool initiate spells.
