One of my players chose the Friends Abroad edge, since it says the
characters makes friends easily. (His English isn't all that good, so only
when I explained the edge to him did he discover it meant one of his
contacts was in a foreign country -- for which I semi-jokingly chose
Tibet.) Anyway, he said he'd taken this edge because, in his words, he
himself isn't that good at making friends. I told him he'd have to
roleplay this part of the edge, because if his character didn't actively
try to find friends, he wouldn't make them easily anyway, no matter what
the edge says. In the end we reached a compromise where I agreed to make
it a bit easier on him if he roleplayed this bit.

What doesn't help is that SR tends to only list useful things; this is
evident in the equipment chapter (no useless gadgets) and in the skills
too. Most of the +-40 skills are useful to characters, whereas "useless"
(hobby) skills are mentioned only as special skills which you may want
your character to look into.
