Hello All,

I would like to introduce a thread concerning munchkins and ways of
dealing with them. I am new to this list, so if this has been covered a
thousand times feel free to let me know.

I address this subject after reading the myriad of posts of SR3. There
is concern about finding a character generation system that is less
"munchable". I feel that any system is capable of being thusly abused.
As a GM, one should be able to prevent that during character generation,
though not always. Thus, I have developed three ways of dealing with
Munchkins:

One, Reality says no. I allow them all of the goodies they want.
Assault Cannon, no problem. When they go blasting it off in a corp
facility, they will usually outclass any corp goons I use. Word goes
out: There is a psycho with an assault cannon gone berzerk in Corp A.
This calls out the Metroplex guard special units who do not want this
maniac loose on the streets. Thus, heavy firepower gets answered by
special forces military grade firepower and the munchkin soon ends up in
jail along with his contacts. Usually end of story.

Two, Break it. The resulting blast from the assult cannon heated the
area to the point that the sprinklers came on. Gee, the water frazzles
the targeting mechanism. Add +1 to TN and the smart link is out also.
In a short time the firing mechanism goes. Boy, it will cost a lot to
repair provided you can find someone with the necessary expertise.

Three, Useless items. I got this from a friend. Introduce senarios
where the ability or item will be of no use. It's just excess weight.

Any of these three should piss off the classic munchkin and (s)he may
even leave the game. This does not bother me. I will be the bad GM who
kills characters. If I lose the game, I will wait a year or so, if
necessary, to get together with another group. It gives me more time to
think up EGM ideas. I realize that this may not be possible for many of
you. What are other suggestions.

Galen
