They're not all bad Gurth, My chips are as they should be, crispy on the
outside, and fluffy inside, with no puddles of grease to drown in :)

As a devout southerner, I am afraid that I am going to have to agree.
The best chips in England are made in the north. There's a lovely
chippy in Leeds, that makes nice crispy thick potato chips, and they're
actually edible, rather than swimming in a huge pool of grease. :)
