rambled on endlessly about Saving the Team by Self-Sacrifice
>How many of you players have GMs and other players bitch about your
>high level character?

None so far, though a certain amount of amazement was stated regarding
my characters firearms skill :) Can I help it if she liked handguns?
:)

>And when you and your team gets into a bind and you try to save the team
>by self-sacrifice your GM wimps out and lets you live?

Can't say that he does. Three of us so far have sacrificed characters
to let the others live, and give them time to get themselves and others
out of the area. I've lost a favoured character doing this, and two
other players have done the same. Pete has a nasty habit of allowing us
to die "honourably" if we so choose. Otherwise .... well you get the
idea.

>Is it cause he does not want your character to be immortalized by the

We did have one session with another GM who fudged all and any dice
rolls when it came to heroic actions by the characters, that got pretty
boring fairly quickly, as there was no threat value, and the amusement
was removed. Nothing worse than knowing that your character is going to
survive an impossible situation because the GM doesn't want to upset his
players.

I've noticed from watching other games, that GMs tend to favour friends
and relatives, and the worst is when they're having a relationship with
one of the players. They daren't do anything unpleasant to the player
just in case they "get it in the ear" later.

I suppose we're kinda lucky that Pete doesn't give a damn about what we
think of him. If it fits the time and situation, he'll do whatever
suits.

> To you GMs out there has any of your players tried to do this? and what

He killed us. He let us die in a blaze of glory, or in one case,
savagely and ignobly, but it allowed the other players the time needed.

I have noticed in one instant, a player got very upset over the demise
of his character, and when questioned about his attitude, stated that he
felt it should have survived. It was pointed out that very few people
would have survived an attack of the nature he suffered, and a single
person is unlikely to be able to fight off a platoon of military types,
least of all NAN special forces. :) But he was adamant that the game
was there for enjoyment, and he would have enjoyed it more if his
character had survived the combat. he sulked for about three months,
refusing to play, and later rejoined after seeing reason. He's since
left again, but that is due to him securing his employment prospects by
stuffing the boss.... ooohh, erm sorry, can I say things like that in
public? Maybe a quick retraction would do, oh damn, there I go again...
I'll shut up quick before I say something really damaging.
