Exactly!
At least that's what we told him when he was little.
Freaked the poor kid out too.

Told him he "never was really all that "attached" to mom."

The facts of the matter are that when the doctor tied off his umbilical
cord, a small loop of his intestine was caught in the knot.
This later became a problem, and had to be corrected surgically.
Rather than perform plastic surgery on an infant, and give him a navel
(which does nothing but collect lint anyway) they simply sewed him shut
flat.

He has nothing but a small curved scar, which he always referred to as a
"Smiley"

Really fun to freak total strangers with!
