| This is one of the reasons for SR3, combat spells REALLY need to be
| clarified, so here goes:
|
| COMBAT spells do not (IMHO) produce any kind of physical "blast". An area
| combat spell works just like a single-target combat spell, except it affects
| all of the valid targets in the area. A Fireball, in the current system,
| isn't a massive ball of flames, more like an area-effect spontaneous
| combustion festival; all of the valid targets in the Area are cooked from the
| inside out.
I always viewed it as a Power Blast with the special effect of fire.
The spell goes off just like a Power Blast, with all the rules that
apply (you can only hit what you can see). And simultaneously a very
low powered Fire DM goes off at the same time. The fire spreads out
in a sphere and will hit everyone and everything within the area of
effect. But the fire is so weak that it's only for show (except for
singing hair, paper, and cloth).
