I just got finished reading the new shadowrun novel_ Blood Sport_ by Lisa
Smedman [the same author of _The Lucifer Deck_]. I must say I was really
dissapointed. I would be intrested in hearing anyone elses opinions.

The basic plot goes something like this. An Azlanter expatriate is
brutally murdered in Seattle. Her Nephew, a combat biker wannabe, and her
"adopted" grandaughter, an ex-lonestar detective, decide to saunter down to
Aztlan and avenge her death. The manage a border crossing with surprising
ease, meet a contact who knows everything, beat the snot out of the
Aztecnology Security Forces [read army] and get the bad guy in the end who
just happens to be one of the most influential preist is the whole fragging
country. Go figure.
I guess my main problem with this novel was that it was not even remotely
believeable within the context of the game. I had the same problem with
_The Lucifer Deck_ . IMHO _Bloodsport_ did not establish believable
characters, there was very little in the way of character development, and
the book just wasn't fun to read.
I am not saying that the Shadowrun novels are the greatest literature out
there but there has been a recent upswing in the quality of the writing. I
guess I just go spoiled. Comments, Critisicims, giant flying carp in red
and blue spandex welcome.
"And into the heart of the Storm, with a cry that pierced all other sounds,
tearing clouds asunder, the Nazgul came...And all were branded with the
foul token of the Lidless Eye"
