Hmmm... I've been looking through my old e-mails, cleaning the
folder, and I have just thought of something else.
What about delayed actions and Astral combat?
Fred the Physical Adept has initiative of 21, while Joe Wage Mage has
init of 18. Fred declares to hold his action to see what Joe will do.
Joe decides to blow Fred away with a Force 6 Mana Bolt. Since Fred is
perceiving astrally, he can see the gathering of astral energies and
prepares himself to strike. Joe releases the spell, and Fred performs
an ideal draw-strike Iaido maneuver on the spell with his Katana
weapon focus. (Did I mention Fred has Quick-Draw power for melee
weapons? I didn't? Silly me. Anyway, we can also assume he had his
katana drawn, or that he has killing hands, or that he engages in
normal unarmed combat)
Fred fights a Force 6 Astral Entity, rolling 10+ dice against a TN of
3 (for Reach), and Spell rolls 6 dice against a TN of 5. Mister Mana
Bolt is toast (especially considering that Fred has Strength of 5, so
it's a 8M attack with no armor for the spell).
Cute, neh?
(Also, the "speed of thought" is pretty slow... Signals move rather
slowly through synapses...)
