My feeling is to go with the spirit of the rules. Magic loss due to
essence loss is, IMHO, in response to implanting ware and other
permanent effects. Temporary essence loss should not affect the
character's Magic rating. Again, IMHO :) So if a character's
essence drops due to the fact that he's a hungry vampire (or was
attacked by a critter with temporary essence drain) then his Magic
shouldn't be affected. Likewise if a vampire sucks a town dry and
boosts his essence to the moon that shouldn't increase his Magic
rating.
