I had a quick read myself... Shadowtech pp 65-66 mentions using nanites
to perform genetic manipulations, due to the limited capabilities of
biological solutions (enzymes cut and paste of DNA). Page 74 describes
Gene Therapy as using tailored nanites to perform various tasks including
cellular repair or genetic modifications. Page 76 describes Leonization
as using nanites to "touch up" old cells. Based on these examples,
SR clearly has the nanite tech for genetic engineering. It just needs
the info on what to change. That's probably the only thing holding the
Vampires back from walking around during the day... They need to have
someone "map" the DNA of HMHVV, figure out how it interacts with human
or metahuman DNA, figure out which gene sequence causes the sunlight
allergy, and figure out what happens when you disable that gene
sequence. If you ever discover a rash of kidnappings where the
victims are turned into vampires and genetically modified, be afraid.
