Using anchoring, as the mage in my group keeps saying. It might
last a few hours or maybe even a week. But he could never survive
the drain to make it last years. So I don't think you can make
a magic iteam that will last forever with anchoring.

However, he'll summon a fire elemental and pay the karma giving it the
task to give this sword a flaming aura when it's not in the sheath. He
then summons a second elemental and binds it to project flame from the
sword whenever the weilder commands. This method would last until some
mage banishes the elementals.
