Ok, I hesitated posting this to the list since I many consider otaku
munchy, but I like em and think the rules need fleshing out ... so here
goes everything
:)

Otaku: Clarifications, Observations and Optional Rules
Clarifications:
1. Otaku store data in headware memory (cyber or optional headware memory
below), must download it *IMMEDIATELY* to offline storage (requires a
second datajack), or hide it elsewhere on the matrix and come back and
get later.
2. VR 2 doesn't state whether otakus can place more than 6 pts in a
mental stat. This is a GM call. :(
3. Cyberadepts have to create a complex form before receiving the +1 to
the rating so starting Armor / Hardening are not increased by one until
the Otaku creates the appropriate form.
4. Since it is not stated otherwise, the size multiplier for hardening is
8 (same as for making a deck).

Observations
1. An Otaku's Maximum Intiative (without optional rules) is 11+3D6 and a
standard decker's maximum Intiative is 19+6D6!
2. Any programming of the brain task would be a very bad time to roll all
1's <eg>
3. Complex Forms are programmed into the brain so theoretically, they're
there forever. If you upgrade a form, the lower rating form is still
there. (I.e. if you have attack 6M then decide to upgrade to attack 6m
+DINAB 4, you can sic the DINABed attack on some IC then load the Attack
6M and whack at something else)

Optional Rules:
1. All Otaku start with one level 4 Datajack (Shadowtech pg 45).
2. Otaku have built-in headware memory
1. Programed as Complex form yielding 50 times rating in Mp size
multiplier is 5*
2. Programed as Complex form yielding 100 times rating in Mp size
multiplier is 5*
3. Programed as Complex form yielding 150 times rating in Mp size
multiplier is 5*
4. All Otaku receive Intelligence x 50 Mp
5. All Otaku receive Intelligence x100 Mp
6. As options 4 or 5 but headware mem can be programed as a complex form
yielding 25 or 50 Mp per rating.
7. Mneumonic Enhancers (bioware) increase Otaku Headware mem by rating
times 50 Mp
8. Mneumonic Enhancers (bioware) increase Otahu Headware mem by rating
times 100 Mp
9. Mneumonic Enhancers (bioware) increase Otahu Headware mem by rating
times 150 Mp
3. Otaku's head counts as a host for programing except for programing
complex forms.
4. Complex forms completed in character development don't cost karma.
5. Otaku have to "Upload" themselves into the matrix. Required time
equals their I/O speed divided by the total I/O speeds of datajacks used
to access the matrix. (Minimum of 1 turn) While uploading, the Otaku
can't affect the Matrix or vice versa.
6. Astrally active Otaku (i.e. shapeshifters): Ugh! Use rules for mages
in the matrix if you must. (All such shapeshifters must be the variety
that were born human then discovered they could shift if they exist in
your game)
7. Otaku must spend programing time to maintain integrity of all complex
forms. (hey, brain cells come and go) Every month sum up all complex
forms and divide by 10. Treat this as the rating of complex form with a
size multiplier of 1 and program (if no successes achieved in test double
base time)
8. Otaku can deck through a stripped deck. (In order to use the decks
Offline Storage) In order to deck without penalties the deck can't have a
MPCP, ICCM Biofeedback filter, hardening, or response Increase. Active
memory, and I/O speed are ignored. Deck must have a "hot" assist
interface. No other restrictions
9. As 8 except deck must have response increase 3.
10. All Otaku are considered as have a level 1 Data Management SPU (If
Data Management SPU present increase SPU's Level by 1) **
11. If Otaku Char takes photographic memory edge (Shadowrun Companion pg
29), double the rating of any Data Management SPU present. If Optional
Rules 2, *OR* 10 are used , photographic memory costs 4 points. If both
are used, Photographic Memory costs 6 points. An Otaku can choose to pay
3 points and not receive any special modifications to Data Management SPU
rating. **

*Modified/swiped from ShadowRN, Source: k <Ereskanti@***.com>
** For Data Management SPU ratings above 4, refer to the following chart
(note: otaku bonuses to Data Management SPUs incur no
additional Load Rating [For System load Rating refer to Shadowtech pages
44, 46, 49-51])
Level Compression
5 +125%
6 +150%
7 +170%
8 +185%
9 +195%
10 +200%
Note: Levels 9 and 10 can only be achieved when using optional rules 10
and 11

I haven't yet entirely decided what optional rules I'm going to use
(right now it's limited to 1, 4, & 5)

Tell me what ya think / make any suggestions (on what can't be done as
well as what can be done)

Hopefully I won't have to worry about any incoming fish because of this
post ... ;)
