Tattoo's hurt for a longer period of time. They hurt the whole time they
are being done. A piercing only hurts for about 30 seconds give or take.
They both hurt and itch when they are healing but that is another story
entirely...

Case in point many of the mages in my game have several piercings. For
those who missed the my orginal post on this topic some weeks back. I
created an enchanting circle that uses and creates body piercing jewelry
as power and assorted other foci... They also use tattoo's which are
not magical but do designate what grade the mage has gotten to in the
circle.
