I'd say that whoever (or whatever) holding the spell lock is turned
invisible, at a number of successes equalling that of the original
casting. In this case, the mage would be invisible, not the sam.

IMHO it's on the lock.

The focus. Once that's defeated (which is oh so easy), the spell is gone
and the lock is toast.

It doesn't disappear as such, it's just about impossible for mundanes to
detect it. IMHO the metal detector would still find the Panther cannon,
after which there'll be some puzzled moments as the sec guards can't find
anything and call in a magician to assense the suspect.
