We should be able to keep the shirts down below $20 American.

Nah. Don't like it, plus that will certainly increase the cost.

Why do we have to have more than one color?

I'm just imagining a black t-shirt with "ShadowRN - Pre-Awakened Forum" on
the front (I love that, worth the price of admission there) and on the back
four cartoonish, stick-figure drawings of the four sayings, all of which in
white?

It's simple. It's less expensive that using multiple colors. And the
basic style, if done right, might actually be vaguely hip. You know, like
those Pearl Jam "Jeremy" shirts or those "Talk to the hand!" shirts
that
are simple and cartoonish.

If the art is simple there's a better chance it will come through clearly
on a printed t-shirt. That's why the list photo concept simply won't fly.

As alternate t-shirt colors we could also do Forest Green, Navy, or
Burgundy. I've got t-shirts in all those colors, printed up for my old
college radio station, and they all look good (at least on me <smirk>).
Plus they are easier to wear in the sun than black (hey, some of us
actually do go outside sometimes).

I'm NOT taking charge of this little thing but I'll try to remember to look
at a t-shirt printing place tomorrow while I'm running errands so we can
have a better idea of costs and amount of time involved.

Who has too much to do with his job, boxing, paintball, setting up for a
new Shadowrun group next week and something called a "personal life" to
take this project over. Please.
