I'd have to say it would do stun damage as a club.

Here, I would think that because it is a katana, it would be better to
fight with it as an edged weapon. That is what it is balanced for.

I'm under the impression that broken bones and such fall under stun
damage because they have much less potential to be lethal on their
own. Whereas, ballistic and edged weapon wounds cause the body to
readily bleed and have a greater chance of being lethal.
This of course is IMO.
