hmm, hard as it may be, it is still going to simply break bones and cause
nasty bruises, as opposed to cutting skin and letting blood.

I've found a good way to think of whether something is stun or phys., is
to think of "stun" damage as the kind that will knock you unconscious before
it kills you (which is in complience with SR damage rules).

if you were beating me up with the aforementioned katana, I envision
myself sustaining a nasty concussion before actually taking critical,
life-threatening wounds.

and as for skills, I'd say the act of handling it in combat is definitly
more like a plain old edged weapon that anything else.

I had a troll in my campaign do that once. under SR3, a polearm is
generically defined as "a melee weapon over a meter long", I'd say the
definition includes said sword. what I did in my campaign is just consider
it a polearm for all mechanical purposes, and let him think of it as a (big)
sword.

I have no idea. I've found that area of the rules to be vague at best, so
for now I just assume any melee weapon occupies both your hands, and hope my
characters don't develop the urge anytime soon. anyone out there know the
answer to this?
