/ Finally, a list of questions the whole family can enjoy...
/
/ 1) Karma Pool. Is there a point where a PC gets too big a
/ pool to handle? I.E. they're always succeeding at tasks
/ that should be reasonably tough (TN 9-12). If so, how do
/ you deal with it?
After 20 it starts to become a problem. After it reaches 30 it's
downright obnoxious.
/ 2) Karma Pool Again. Do you follow the rule that meta-
/ humans gain karma pool at half the rate as humans? If so,
/ do they start out with 2 karma pool, as in 2nd Ed.?
No, and no. I mess with metahumans through roleplaying
(discrimination, bigotry, prejiduce, misperceptions, idealism, etc.).
/ 3) More Pooling Around. Do you even use the pool? I
/ know one group (probably more) that don't; instead they
/ burn good karma to do the same things as the pool would.
I don't use the pool anymore. I allow PCs to burn good karma to buy
successes at a cost of 1(TN/6) (round up) per success, provided that
they either have the required skill, or that they rolled at least one
natural success by defaulting.
If a character with demolitions is trying to defuse a bomb (TN 8) and
he doesn't roll any successes, he can purchase successes at a cost of 2
good karma per success.
If a character without demolitions is trying to defuse a bomb and
defaults (TN 14) and rolls at least one success, he may purchase
additional successes at a cost of 3 karma per success. If the same
character did not succeed he would not be able to use karma to
succeed. (Exception, he can burn a lot of karma (equal to the TN) to
purchase one success.)
I don't allow karma to be spent for dice re-rolls. IMO re-rolling
failures takes to much time and prohibitively slows down the game.
/ 9) Dice. How many dice do you usually take to a gaming
/ session? And do you take those multi-sided AD&D dice,
/ even though you know you won't need them?
As a GM I have 30d6 (20 of one color and 10 of another color).
Of course I take my other dice :)
