Or, the GM can fiddle things to make it more realistic (and
remember the bonuses for concealment holsters). For several
years I carried (with license) a Browning Hi-Power, which isn't a
little gun, without it being noticed under jeans and windbreaker, so I
can't see why Joe-Widget-on-the-corner would spot a something
like a Colt American on someone wearing (for example) an
armoured bomber jacket.
It's mostly a matter of (a) not carrying too much gun, (b)
properly carrying it (some folks can pull of shoulder rigs, but other
can't, that sort of thing), and (c) dressing properly.
