We may not have invented the chip(British Definition) but we most
certainly did invent the chip(American Definition). Saratoga Springs,
New York, Grand Union Hotel. A Native American chef, who was quite
upset with a customer who kept sending his chips(British Definition)
back to the kitchen because they weren't sliced thin enough, finally
sliced a potato absurdly thin, and deep fried until they were crisp.
The potato chip(American Definition) was born.
