In SR3, when casting a spell you will roll your Sorcery dice (just like
pistols or other active skill) to cast a spell. Force is only used for Drain
and effect (resistance). The number of pool dice you can allocate is equal
to your Magic Rating.

You may want to also keep in mind that Combat Spells and Maninulation spells
that do damage can now be cast at any damage level. A Manaball can be Light
or Deadly damage.

Spell defense also works a little different. It's much better than SR2 but
I'm not exactly sure how Initiate shielding works now. Has anyone else come
across this? Just exactly would you handle this situation?

--An area effect spell like flamebomb targets the group. I have 8 dice
in shielding set aside for me and 3 others. Is the target number affected?
Or do I just basiclly roll 8 dice and compare results? If it was a
Hellblast, would I allocate 2 dice each so the target number is increased by
two then roll 4 sets of 2 dice or all 8? (would be important as far a karma
pool rerolls are concerned).

Peace,
