Nope. 12.7x99 mm was a development of the German 13 mm "Tank und Flieger"
cartridge, adapted by John M. Browning for an upscaled version of his .30-
06-caliber (7.62x63 mm) M1919 machinegun, intended as aircraft armament
and for providing anti-aircraft fire. AFAIK it was never used as an anti-
tank round in the US -- probably because to the best of my knowledge, no
anti-tank rifle was ever built in the USA around that time.
