It's no more a bending the rules than the rules for the Sentry II gun
system were. I figure that if there's a canon example of a stationary
drone, then this should be kosher too.

Any drone or vehicle with a Sensor rating of 1 or higher has radar.
How long would it take for radar to "cook" a brain, in your opinion?
We might have a new mode of attack for drones now. Forget the guns,
just land the rotor drone on top of the target's head and radar him.
