Horrors, or as they are called in Shadowrun "The Enemy", are astral
entities that exsist for no other reason than to consume. They are
evil. Some of the smaller Horrors feed on flesh and bone. Some of the
stronger ones feed on lifeforce itself. While the more mighty and
manipulative of these creature feed of raw emotion- particularly fear
and pain.
The magic level must be at a certain level before the more
threatening of the Horrors can come over to our plane(astral and
physical). Some of the smaller types of Horrors are already here in the
forms of Wraiths and Nomads. Contrary to a previous post, Bug Spirits
are NOT The Enemy- The Bug spirits are prey to the Enemy every bit as we
are.
The thing is, in Shadowrun, the Horrors are not supposed to appear
for another few THOUSAND years, but events such as Blood Magic and the
Great Ghost Dance have caused "mana-spikes", areas in the astral space
that have a much higher magic level than the rest of the world.
And pray they don't come. If they do make it through, it will make
Revelations in the Bible look like a tea party.
