He spent 600,000 on three contacts?!?!? Well, to each
his own. Apart from that, I'd have to say that I can't see
a Mantis Spirit as a "Friend-for-life" who would "drop
everything in order to help the character out."
Mantis Spirits are Insect Spirits, after all, their motives
are inscrutable, and totally their own. Maybe they'd
become friends with a human because it served their
ends, or even because they thought it might be "fun."
But I can't see them devoting themselves to one person
to the point of being a "friend for life."
But they'd make a perfect Level 1 contact!
