Subject: sucker-shooting a mundane from astral via area spells (possible?)
Date: Sat, 3 Jul 1999 09:30:09 -0700
Well I know this has been addressed but I can't find it in the Shadowrun
archive nor the list archive:

Having a discussion (3rd edition rules wise) with someone over something one
of my players had said:

***********The other person stated:*************
>You can actually ground area of effect spells through anything that is
>present on both planes, I.E. an astraly perceiving magician, an active
>focus, or a spirit. That is what he was talking about doing to his force
>one spirit, and that's why I brought up not pissing them off lest they come
>back to rape your soul.

>So it is possible to sucker-shot a mundane from astral, but the
consequences
>of abusing your spirits that way can be dire.

**********My thinking was:*******************
Just looked this up. As far as I can tell an area spell only affect valid
targets in it's area (second paragraph of p 182).
Astral targets can only be affected by mana spells (page 182 first
paragraph of Astral Spell casting section).

An astral mage casting a mana area spell on an astrally perceiving target
would only hit those targets in the area that are also valid; which since
the caster is astral would be astrally perceiving targets only.

Does anyone know anything more solid on this topic? With possible page
numbers I look this up on.
