This is what I mean. More than background counts. Sure Europe would have a
high background count from it's violent history. But the land there was not
in touch with it's people in the same way as places like the Americas and
Australia.
And the people of Europe are still the same people who've always controlled
that land, regardless of what name they may give to their current set of
tribes. It has had no reason to rise up and protest.
By contrast the Americas, particularly north America have seen an extreme
level of desecration of sacred sites.
While in Europe a pagan temple has had a Christian church built over it.
With the people simply switching the faces of the gods they follow; here the
holy place becomes a gold mine, a strip mall, or a golf course (and so on).
So while the background counts are high anywhere (Natives here have warred
with each other for millennia just as in Europe); here the land itself has
reason to be angry and rebel.
And the same could be said of Australia for much the same reasons.
