Don't think so. But if you consider their eco-killing society,
which has some parallels to our situation, and their ritual
killing during sacred days, tose days weren't that nice to live...

Russia should have a heavy background then. First, Stalin has put
the intellectual elite into camps, then he let millions starve
twice. During WW2, they lost about 23 million people altogether.
Then starving and gulags started again...
