If you think the aliens in the Alien movies are evil, then yes, insect
spirits are evil. IMHO, they just follow a way of life that's unacceptable
to humans. Not evil, just different. (And "a pain in the arse" is a slight
understatement :)

History, well, they appeared more or less along with the Awakening; I
don't know when they first showed their faces (so to speak), but it can't
have been before 2011. In the game, their first appearance was in the
adventure Queen Euphoria (FASA #7304) which is set in 2051, but it took
over five years before their presence became widely-known.

For stats, I would refer you to any of the following books (in
chronological order):

Queen Euphoria
The Universal Brotherhood
The Grimoire (2nd edition)
Double Exposure
Bug City
Magic in the Shadows

MITS is the best choice, as it has the latest version of the stats and
powers, compatible with SR3 rules.
