That would be World's Without End by Caroline Spector? Or are you
thinking of the one by Smedman whose name I can't remember, but
involved the Aztlaner blood mages?

Because it is implied in multiple sources that this game is set in the
waning of the mana cycle of the Second or Fourth Worlds)

suggest that they did not get back to the Sixth World in 2011, but even
they had to wait for the mana level to rise someway before "crossing
over" from "hell"(for want of a better term" hence they started
appearing sometime between 2011 and 2051, I'd suggest about 2035-40,
remembering that things like The Great Ghost Dance, have helped them
cross over sooner than should have been possible.

Okay, close, but not exactly right, IIRC (my own reading is a bit out
of date). I seem to recall that the insect spirits are precursors of
the Horrors, but are also a completely separate force. It's just that
the insect spirits can enter the world before the Horrors can, so when
they start coming, you know the Horrors will be heading in too.
The insect spirits aren't demons or from Hell, anymore than nature
spirits are. They're just from one of the metaplanes. I think. :)
Lastly, if you've read the DHS, Jeremy, you'd have noticed that the
mana spikes caused by such things as the Great Ghost Dance have been
smoothed over, preventing the early entry of Horrors and the like into
the world. The insect spirits were already here, though, so tough, deal
with 'em. :)
