Subject: | Missing Ranged Called Shots |

I had a player present a question to me the other day that I wasn't able to answer. He
wanted to know how to figure if a called shot hit another part of the body if the called
shot itself missed. His reasoning was that just because you miss the target's
head/arm/whatever doesn't mean you won't still hit the target in another location.
My initial reaction was that while there is a chance of hitting another part of the
target's body, there is a risk to making a called shot. Then I thought about it for a
minute and debated whether it would be too complex to add someting into the system to
account for this.
My first quesion is this: is this a good thing to add into the rules? Is it too much?
After all, sometimes you will miss altogether, but I can see how you might be off just a
little in a direction that would still hit the target.
My thoughts on a system for this would be to figure the called shot modifier last. So, if
a player would normally hit the target if it weren't for the called shot mod, the shot is
considered a hit. But this doesn't account for total misses of the target. After all,
you can still just miss the target because you aimed a teensy weensy bit too far to the
right of your target's right arm and his torso is to the left, or whatever. Also, this
takes away the risk of making a called shot. After all, if you hit without the +4 TN mod
you would still hit the person - gaining the best of both worlds. All shots would be
called shots. *shudder*
Ideas? Comments? Flames?
Thanks!
