Using the SR elements as they stand, I think you've done well. I had been
thinking of something along similar lines as well, except that
my version included the element of Spirit. The only problem is that SR
spell types don't mesh perfectly with the elements. Here's what I came up
with, trying to be as true to elemental correspondences as possible.
ELEMENT -> CORRESPONDENCE -> SR SPELL CATEGORY
Air -> Mind/Intellect -> Illusion OR Detection (both would fit)
Earth -> Material Concerns -> ???
Fire -> Change -> Manipulation
Water -> Health/Emotion -> Healing
Spirit -> Spiritual Perfection -> Combat (because of the intangible/
astral aspect of the spells)
The problem is that Air fits well with two different SR spell categories
and Earth doesn't really fit with any. The best compromise is this IMO:
Air -> Detection
Earth -> Manipulation (doesn't really fit but its the best I can do)
Fire -> Illusion (because of heat defraction)
Water -> Healing
Spirit -> Combat
Note that this method requires the introduction of Spirit Elementals.
