Well, given that it's a fantasy game, anything is possible :)

It's entirely up to the GM and his interpretation of the rules. I
personally wouldn't allow it by a PC unless I engineered it as part of the
campaign.

Hm.... it might be kind of fun to have the astral form of a mage (who's
body was killed) possess one of the runners... <EGMG>.
