>core rulebooks in hardcover is large enough to justify the higher
>per-unit manufacturing costs of a hardcover.
I wonder if there's truth in that.
The only other game I know of that has had both hard and soft cover versions
of the same rulebook selling at the same time is GURPS. And I don't know how
well their hardcovers have sold. I do know that I own them.
I also know I would buy a SR3 hardcover over a softcover for as much as a $5
difference most likely. Beyond that I'd only do it if it was a collectors item.
WHile I could afford $100 for one easily; I could not justify to my spouse...
If the SR3 rules were easily available in hardcover in most gaming stores and
so on; what percentage of people would opt for them? If the rules were only
available in hardcover format and it shot the book's price up another $5 US
how much would hurt SR3's sales?
Retorical questions one can ponder.
However I will say I'm not so sure I'd want a hardcover using the first printing
of the rules before all the erratta fixes. In fact I already plan to sell my
softcover as soon as I can locate a 6th printing (probably next year as I don't
think it's even been printed yet) to replace it with.
