Actually, religion has been responsible for a hell of a lot bad things
(Spanish Inquisition, The Crusades, Witch Burnings, etc.). I can't remember
the last time an RPGamer was responsible for death on a mass scale.
I believe that everyone is entitled to their right to believe, but sometimes
"group belief" can get out of hand. Such is the nature of man.
The news also tends to make things seem worse than they are. I hear some
people say that things are worse than ever. Compared to some of the darker
areas of our history things are pretty good these days.
