Those would really be my two suggestions. Really, though, Texas shouldn't
be too hard if you know the modern-day state with any degree of accuracy.
It's part of the CAS, which means that it generally holds to the ideas of
State's rights over those of the federal government, and weapon ownership is
going to be a lot more common than it is today (which in Texas, likely means
that three out of five people will be somewhat armed).

To the basic Texas mindset, add a bit of paranoia... not only is this the
Sixth world, but Aztlan is always making noises about how Texas should be
part of their empire, Pueblo's to the West and your state has never had
stellar relations with them, and it certainly doesn't look all that far from
Sioux Territory to Amarillo, especially if the Yankees decide they want to
bring the CAS back into their country.

But, then, I hang out with some extremists when I'm in Texas.
