How do you know? Perhaps Tolkien (who, IIRC, was fairly long-lived and a
truly revolutionary scholar in some respects) was actually an IE, and he
used his knowledge of the real elven language to write his books... just
slightly modified, so as to not piss off the other IEs. When coming up with
book-Sperethiel, he simply mixed in some Old English and Irish, and maybe
worked some Old Norse into the dwarven to mix that up a bit. He then faked
his own death, and moved onto his next life.

I think it's a perfectly reasonable explanation, in light of the other
information we have about IEs... :-)
