You think? We have an isolationist president and administration that seem
to be intent on doing exactly what they want to do regardless of world
opinion. Depending on which group is responsible, I think it is safe to
say that we are probably closer to using nukes in a retaliatory strike at
this time than any other point since the cold war.

On a side note, this reminds me of a problem I had with the whole
"attacking DC" thread a while back. Most of the suggestions involved using
uber-military and magical defenses in place all over DC and specifically
at the major government buildings. As you can see from todays news, this
kind of defensive weaponry is simply not in place. Of course it could be
argued that after an attack of this magnitude such increased firepower
could perhaps be justified. However it would be very expensive to maintain
over an extended period of time (years, decades, etc.) and likely would
have grown very lax. This would be evident by the apparent ease in which
Dunky was killed. After Dunky's death I could understand having military
security measures put in place but again I can't see that kind of
readiness lasting much more than 1 year before it starts to get scaled
back.
