I have a beautiful young daughter who, fortunately, is too young to
realize that anything is going on. But I'm curious about what those of
you who do have children old enough are telling them? What do they
think? Am I getting too personal in this?

New to the list, just wish that I could have found something less horrid
for my first post...

As this is the second time that someone has asked me this today, I don't
think it's too personal. At least if it is, it's also necessary.

I've two daughters, 6 and 8. It was not easy to sit them down and tell them
what had happened, but with my wife and I talking about it, it was either
that or lie to them.

"Some very bad people did some very bad things." With an brief explanation
of what happened. I let them see the smoking buildings but tried to keep
them away from the pictures of the bodies falling/jumping from the
buildings and ones being carted to the hospitals.

I haven't been able to discuss it with mine it (age 7), it would almost be
funny if the situation weren't so sad because I've been wanting to talk to
her about such things one of these day too, because I don't want to have her
act like some of the people we've seen everyday let alone like the people who
committed this act of violence.

I'd probably start with that some people are violent either because they were
born that way or because they got brought up that way or because they are
sick in their heads. The people who did this thought this act would achieve
some purpose that would do them some good, but they were ignorant of the fact
that violence solves no problems in the long run. That instead if they had
treated their fellowman as they wanted to be treated they could have achieved
more than by this act. That this is an example of how bad it is to commit
violence (Although personally I admit I might have no objection to seeing
some new deserts where capital cities should be I'm sorry to say).

(Okay, that used to be true, but now it's a lie. The world just changed.)

No, the world is the same. Maybe some people will come out better for this
though. It's a sad thing to realize sometimes that there is so much hate in
the world.

What do they think? Can't say I know at this point. I know that my oldest
is thinking about it--thinking about what's going to happen next. I guess
it comes down to uncertainty.

Only other thing that I know to do about it is just to let them know that I
love 'em and that it's going to be okay.
Just wish I believed that last one myself...

Bryan
p.s. please excuse the mess this might make on the list.
