There still are some around, some like C, some like LISP...

I'd say that the OSes in the 2060s are a lot closer to the hardware than
now adays.

Just look into RA:S.
And I think it is extremely unlikely that S-K, Renraku and Novatech would
use the same OS for their hardware.

Yeah, with closely guarded I/O and Memory Protection and neat little stuff,
a Windows user can only dream about...
