I remember there being mention of electrode ('trode) rigs being mentioned
in some of the Shadowrun novels. They may even have been mentioned in the
flavor text of the sourcebooks, but I don't recall any official rules for
them anywhere.
I would guess that they would perform most of the functions of a datajack,
but at a reduced price and reduced 'effectiveness', but good enough for
basic simsense functions.
