Except that they are...
The energy created by the spell will take the quickest route to earth, this
will either be the ionised air created by other parts of the sphere or -
more likely - the metallic shell of the vehicle. The lowest points of the
vehicle's chassis will provide arc points but the vehicle itself won't be
harmed (otherwise every plane that ever flew through cloud would crash).
A particularly vindictive (or desperate (either to have the players survive
now that the troll with the AV Panther's down or to actually make things a
challenge for the 'runner known as Micheal Knight)) GM might determine that
the magnetic field created by the moving charge affects the sensors
somewhat - but it wouldn't be major (a little purpling at the edges of
cathode ray tubes, some temporary realignment - nothing that the sensors'
systems won't be able to at least compensate for after a few moments.
If you were to place a computer inside a car and then subject it (the car)
to some time with a Tesla coil the computer would still be perfectly useable.

A GM who's had dozens of vehicles Hellblasted to peices and was very glad
when the character was converted - Ball lightning results in fewer FAA
investigations.
