I disagree, because it's an Elemental manipulation rather than a combat
spell it has to follow the laws of physics, the caster is creating the
conditions for ball lightning to hit the vehicle, he has no influence on it
from there and must allow it to do what electricity does.
A fireball will set fire to things, whether you want it to or not;
lightning will follow the path of least resistance to earth - whether you
want it to or not.
