I've always interpreted this rule as meaning that it will explode
through its entire area of effect, regardless of LOS. Lets change your
example slightly:

The target point (the x) is now on the caster's side of the wall; going
by the rules, the target (t) is still affected, because he's around the
corner but inside the area of effect, even though he would probably be
shielded from the blast of a hand grenade detonating at the x.

And then it follows that I don't really see how that is different from
this situation:
