Subject: | SR4: matrix -- first impression |

during this weekend I flipped through the pages of SR4 pdf. One of the
things I looked at was the matrix section, which was a real pain in
SR[23] for me (our group).
In the past times, I explained this subject to new players this way:
imagine a guy in the late 80s or early 90s that can hardly use his *-DOS
based PC and have just read Gibson's Neuromancer. As you can guess, the
mixture of these two bits of knowledge, augmented by some confusion and
a big deal of enthusiasm, that is the shadowrun's computer world.
As SR3 brought no changes to it, I was quite curious if SR4 will
surprise me, finally. Yes, it really did. There is no more the DOS
trash. This time, the guy was probably reading his actual computer
magazine dedicated to bluetooth and maybe even a little to wi-fi. Hell,
there are some paragraphs in SR4 copied directly from the bluetooth
manuals.
So, after this experience, I've got one question and one plea:
- Are there any players knowing a bit about computers or so? Do you play
the hackers or the matrix-based runs? What do you think about this
stuff?
- If anyone is going to make a SR extension or a standalone RPG at all,
please, do not base it on your actual computer magazine, favourite book
or movie. Thank you ;-)
