the internal power structure of the Italian government: Ganz leicht. There is
none--permit me to expound upon that:
Following the conclusion of hostilities of the EuroWar in 2033, several states
experienced considerable backlash to the stresses that had mounted before and
during the conflict. In line with this, Italy, southern France, and the Balkan
region fragmented into collections of tiny states, provinces, and so-called
"free" cities. In the case of Italy, this had the result of, in essence,
turning the clock back to a time previous to its union in the latter part of
the 1800s. The political situation is chaotic at best, and violent at worst,
e.g., when inter-provincial rivalries escalate into open conflicts. This means
that regulations and law enforcement has the potential for altering
significantly from place to place. Tread lightly.
In terms of any central authority, the only force that exercises any
significant influence is the Roman Catholic Church. The Christian Pontiff's
realm took the opportunity presented by the shattering of Italy to expand its
influence from its postage-stamp sized Vatican City to much of the territory
surrounding the now impotent former capital of Italy, Rome. ]<<<<<
