>>>>>[Thanks for your generosity man, I didn't expect that. Honesty ain't
nothin' it's just another way of sayin' 'you ain't fucked with me so I'll be
nice' is all.

I'm always interested in work, I have a need for money that ain't easy to
answer in this day and age. I travel a fair bit too. I got me some idents I
can use in a number of countries and they're sound so I ain't got much
trouble visitin' places. I ain't carryin' no nasty cyber so security don't
go nuts when I pass it. What are ya thinkin'?]<<<<<

>>>>>[Honesty, among most North Americans, is rare. You were fair and
direct with me, whereas most of your peers would have tried to extort
extra money or lied to me.

I value that honesty, even if I can only reward it with money. You have
treated me with respect and fairness, and I choose to respond in kind.

I am responsible for internal security in Cordillera Province, Amazonia.
I answer only to General Lopez for protecting the province from
dissidents and criminals.

I would be willing to offer you >>generous sum<< per month to assist and
advise me, for as long as you found it interesting to do so. Your work
would include discussing with me what the threat was, as well as
planning the arrests of dissidents and supervising or participating in
interrogations of suspects.

I would expect that you would initially enjoy the work very much, then
might begin to find it tedious after a few months; at which point you
would be free to leave with our thanks, rather than keep you in a role
that bored you. You strike me as a man who should not be forced into
doing what he does not wish to do.

There will be an element of formality and discipline involved, to
protect my position. You would have to wear military uniform, for
instance, and act in a somewhat subservient manner to me since I would
be your commander. I will understand, completely, if you dislike this
and reject my offer because of it.

Failing that offer of formal employent, I may still have some
opportunities for you. If you are not eager to act as a major in the
Cordilleran counter-insurgency department, you may still be willing to
be a consultant. You would have fewer constraints and responsibilities,
but lesser pay (perhaps only >>amount<< for your assistance on a typical
case).

Or, you may choose not to involve yourself in the affairs of a border
province in the Andes, and pursue more lucrative opportunities
elsewhere, and decide you do not like any employment I have to offer.

In any case, you have dealt fairly with me and I hope I have done the
same for you. If nothing else, you have made sure I will remember your
name whenever I need less-than-legal operations carried out in the
UCAS.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Well now. You got me all curious but, I'm gonna have to say no. While
the offer sounds kinda inviting and it'd be real nice to have license for
some fun I've kinda been my own man all my life. That means I don't take too
kindly to orders. Of course there's also the part where I ain't exactly Mr.
Congenial and that means we'd get to arguin' sometimes and that ain't a good
thing. A guy shouldn't argue with his boss 'cos it makes things bad. If'n
you don't mind I'll just hang around doin' what I'm doin' and mayhaps
sometimes you'll think of me when you have work in this neck of the woods.
Uniforms, orders and subservience ain't exactly my kind of living room I'm
afraid. Sorry to be lettin' you down an' all but that's the way of things
I'm afraid. I hope you is successful at catching them dissidents and
criminal types, I can understand how they'd be a real nuisance to someone in
security. I look forward to future dealings with you, you seems like a
straight enough guy.]<<<<<

>>>>>[Thank you for your frank and honest response. Feel no regret about
your refusal: it was freely made, and I would much rather you honestly
refused than accept and caused the problems you said might be possible.

I will, indeed, bear your name in mind if other work in Seattle is
needed. I will also make sure that others who might have such work, know
who to contact.

It has been a rare pleasure, sir.]<<<<<
