PENTAGON BOMBING SPARKS ORGY OF CLAIMS
The only clear fact at the moment is that, at 0531 on Thursday morning,
a van bomb containing over a hundred pounds of an ancient explosive
detonated in an almost-empty parking lot less than two hundred yards
from the Pentagon building, shattering dozens of windows and cratering
the asphalt but inflicting no other damage.
Since then, a series of claims have been made. The Children of Frypp,
Messiah stated they planted the bomb as a blow for metahumanity. The
Thunda's Glory sect insisted they set the device as a protest against
the Federal involvement in their idol's death. Another call claimed to
be from Alamos 20,000, but apparently lacked the proper codewords and
Alamos have denied the attack: apart from one Detroit faction which
claimed responsibility.
The Sons of the Iron Lady, the Brotherhood of Christ, the John Birch
Society, the Free America Movement and the Wolves of Montana have all
been reported as claiming the bombing. Dozens of other movements, most
previously unknown, have stepped forward staking their claim to the
explosion: some serious, some not.
Meanwhile, the latest conspiracy theory is that the Feds planted the
bomb themselves to justify a crackdown and to hide the existence of
thousands of corpses and tons of classified files hidden aboard the
scrapped battleship _Iowa_, lost at sea yesterday when she snapped her
tow on her way to the breakers.
As Federal investigators refuse to comment, the Pentagon returns to
business as usual, and local glaziers enjoy a bonanza. Meanwhile, the
claims for this attack and the wild theories behind it continue to roll
in.
