The decker run is on Achilles datastores. They're kept in Fort Lewis in
a secure enclosure, hence the Matrix rather than physical penetration.
The file servers have a permanent matrix connection to Achilles at the
Army base - the place they're kept at the moment, is only temporary,
hence the 10-14 days, after that they'll be moved into the Achilles
offices.

Ratspeak is being hired to destroy certain data storage nodes and plant
a time limited virus. The virus is small, and very powerful. Once
activated - by accessing one of the empty datastores, it should leave
sufficient damage that all the missing information will be considered
lost due to the virus and not theft.

I won't go into the somantics of the whole thing. Needless to say, IC
on the entrance is pretty heavy, and on the deeper more classifed
stores, where Ratspeak is going are active stores and the protection
isn't as heavy, he'll have to worm his way past the point of entry, but
after that it's not so difficult.

I'm mucking around a little bit with the Achilles plot, and it really
needed a decker of some reputation to accomplish it. :)

What Ratspeak is destroying, is all and any informtion Achilles have on
a chap they know as Briareus, and unpleasant little oik who's trying to
build funds and support for NanOg and his family, while discrediting
Tairngire & the council. So far, it's 50/50 he wants to up the odds in
his favour by causing some confusion amongst the security agencies who
are hunting for him.

+++++begin video
Lynch gets out of the car, in a run-down dockside district, outside a
bar whose buzzing neon proclaims it to be "The Catch'o the Day". A
tired-looking prostitute evaluates him with a glance, reaches for her
licence: Lynch shakes his head slightly and she ignores him. The
teenaged boy kneeling by the door is more interested in retching up his
stomach linings than in the man passing him.

"You with me, guys?" A quiet radio transmission.

"Any time." Lilith, calm and confident. A snore, from Quinn. Lynch
snorts in mock disgust, as he pushes through into the bar.

It's generic low-life: dirty and dimly-lit, the sort of place where you
don't look too closely at the beer, and where the men's room crawls with
bacteria that you could enter in a rodeo. The trideo set above the bar
is showing a fuzzy and badly-polarised Spears game, the commentary is
frantic Spanish, and the patrons are largely ignoring it.

An Elven girl in a sequinned G-string is dancing around a pole with an
enthusiasm that has to be chemically enhanced: the one customer sitting
near her engaged in a steady routine of leisurely and thoroughly
stuffing a five-peso bill into her underwear, the girl extracting it and
tucking it into the garter that's her only other garment, the customer
offering up another. That little tableau is also ignored by the patrons.

The customers don't even appear to notice Lynch: he doesn't look too out
of place, just another scruffily-dressed individual in a room full of
them.

A lot of people have died from that sort of assumption, of course...

The bartender deigns to notices Lynch, pulls him a beer without being
asked. Lynch shoves a crumpled ten-peso note at him.

"Cain't make change on that, senor."

"Tell me who Winlow is and you can keep it." Lynch replies. The
bartender nods, moves away with the money: a few minutes later, a skinny
Ork takes the stool next to Lynch.

"You looking for me, man?"

"Yeah. How good's your memory?"

"Depends who's asking." The Ork shrugs.

Lynch lights a cigarette, offers the case to Winlow: the thin Ork
reaches for a cigarette, shows surprise, makes the money hidden by the
thin metal case vanish. "Yeah, man, my memory's pretty good these days.
For you. For now."

"Man called Muller, or maybe Schuller. German businessman." Lynch says.
"Took a boat out a couple of years ago. Your boat. Lost it. He and his
friends floated a little later. You put in a claim for the boat with
Amiable Mutual of Atlanta, based on what the Coasties found of the
wreckage you claimed for torpedo shark attack. They hassled you, then
they paid, you got a new boat. Am I right so far?"

"Yeah, man. Who you with?"

"UCAS intelligence." Lynch shows his badge, very discreetly.

Winlow shows surprise in return. "Shee-it, man. I figured MPD or some
insurance investigator. I tell it true, bud, I see the wreck, that boat
got stove in so bad only torpedo shark gonna do that -"

"Ain't my problem, Ron. You think I'd be here, talking like this, if I
was gonna bust you? I want to know about the guys on the boat. How
many?"

"Party of four rented it. All Anglo breeds, you know? Only really
recognise Schuller, he -"

"How many on the boat when it went out? That's what I'd really like to
know." Lynch's voice has the gentleness that those who know him might
fear.

"There was gonna be four. And they said they didn't need crew." Winlow
has a slight aggrieved edge to his voice. "Amiable Mutual were
_sonsabitches_ about that, man, they said I should have been crew. Yeah,
maybe I should have, but I rent the boat and I don't ask no questions,
you dig?"

"I dig. Tough business down here, lots of competition. Man can't be as
discerning as he'd like to be."

Winlow looks hard at Lynch, relaxes. "You ain't kidding me. I thought
you were funning there for a moment, but you ain't, you sound like you
unnerstand. Yeah, it's real tough. Man can't ask too many questions
about his hires. Just get a valid boathandler's licence and you're
fine."

"Schuller didn't have a boatman's permit. Nor did Boursy, or Dunphy, or
Ziegler."

"I'm _getting_ to that, okay? When I made this small point to these
gentlemen -"

"You with the Law?" A voice from behind Lynch, who turns. A Troll
glowers down at him.

"Whose law?" he replies, sliding off his barstool and taking two steps
to the side: giving himself fighting room.

"We don't like law here." The Troll has several friends, it seems, who
are gathering behind him.

"Fine. So walk away."

"Frag you, pal." The Troll draws back one huge fist -

As the fist pistons out at Lynch, he dodges easily around it, gripping
the wrist and twisting: as the arm locks and the Troll rises on his
toes, howling in sudden pain, he strikes into the locked elbow (a snap
of bone with an accompanying scream) and kicks into the knee the Troll
is carrying his weight on (another sound of agonising fracture,
instantly compounded by three hundred pounds of _homo sapiens ingentis_
collapsing onto it) and as the first of the Troll's friends steps
forwards, he finds himeslf staring into the muzzle of an old but very
lethal Colt Python.

The bar is silent, except for the choking sounds of a crippled Troll
trying to breathe around his agony and the babbling Spanish of the Brawl
game.

"There's more of us than you got bullets." The Ork in front of the .357
says: his bravado ruined by the quaver in his voice.

Lynch, right-handed, draws a vicious Gerber knife. "That's right. So
after I kill the first six of you, I've only got this itty bitty knife.
Of course, number seven's going to be tripping over dead bodies..."

"We don't like law round here." the Ork restates, with a slight quaver
in his voice.

"Well, good for you. Did I ever say I was law?" Lynch shakes his head.
"I got questions to ask. I got work to do. So fucking what? I got to
kill a bunch of assholes because asking questions makes me MPD?"

"You're _not_ MPD?"

"I'm not even Carib. Now, think fast." Lynch thumbs the revolver's
hammer back. "You got a problem or not?"

"You ain't law, we got no problem."

"Outstanding!" Lynch drops the Python's hammer and makes the revolver
vanish in a fast, showy move. "I _knew_ we could be friends. I think I
ought to be going now. You see, I paid for some information, and now you
scared the guy who was selling it away. That might make me angry. And
you wouldn't like me when I was angry."

Nobody opposes him as he walks to the door and outside.

Lilith spares him an nod; she's covering the door, her AKS-47 tight in
her shoulder. Quinn is sitting on a young Ork, her own huge revolver
held in one hand.

"Ron! I knew you wouldn't go far after I paid you for some answers."

"Hey, man, you done my rep, I gonna-"

"I'm sorry, Ronald. Just I thought I heard you talking about _your_
problems, like I might give a shit about them. I had a problem. I had a
whole bunch of bad-tempered locals try to take me on. Did I ask you to
help me? No, I didn't. Did I complain when you beat feet out of there?
Not for a moment.

"See, that was _my_ problem, and if it's _my_ problem that means _I_
deal with it. Now, after I'm so considerate to you, you tell me I should
solve _your_ problems for you? That's kind of unfair."

"What the hell you want, man?" Winlow says sullenly after a long pause.

"The name of the guy with the boathandler's licence. The fifth man on
your boat. That's what I want."

"Oh, man... I can't tell you. Not here. Some asshole breeder, like the
others. I can get you his name -"

"Then let's go get it, Ron, time's a-wasting." Lynch snaps.

Be careful, if you're getting close to what these people are hiding,
they're likely to do something unpleasant. For god's sake watch your
back. It won't be Haze you need to worry about.

We have reason to believe, though I'm unable to confirm at this time,
that the Goldsmith look-a-like we had here in Seattle borded a transport
for Miami. If this man is anything like his twin, you've got some deep
shit headed your way. I've informed security, MiamiPD and Torus, but
that doesn't mean they'll get him, or even identify him.

The Pentagram killings have started a sequence of "Black Magic" rituals
here in Seattle, we've had two more verifiable killings in the last two
weeks, and five copycats. Seneca busted a group of Satanists two days
ago, and Lone Star have pulled in another four groups, one of them
enjoying a ritual on a rather expensive golf course. The COT flop
houses have reached a peak, and no more are opening, it seems that
they've got what they want. Chris believes that COT are getting ready
to move their operation again. Whatever it is they're up to, they've
almost completed it. With Achilles shutting down in six weeks, I doubt
we'll have time to follow this through. However, anything you can get
together down there will be invaluable. Seneca are going to allow
several Achilles members to form a task force to chase the organisation
down, to my way of thinking, that's good news.

I've had a look into Torus, a little careful nosing around, and I'm not
happy with what I've discovered. Torus and Miami PD get on a little
better than they let people believe.

+++++Include Analysis.doc

That's what we've found out about their operations over the last 12
months. You'll notice a few names crop up a little too regularly for
comfort. That and the fact that they had all the information they
needed to treat the pentagram killings as a more serious event than it
was actually filed as. A few people down there would appear to be on
somebody's payroll, and it's not the Government.

In some ways, maybe it's best that the Projects shut down, with evidence
of corruption on this scale, they would not have worked. Abuse was
inevitable, but this is sickening. I've passed on some information to
the Project Committee, but not Seneca, not yet. The more information
you dig up down there, the more at risk you are from the officers named
in the document. I can't point fingers directly, that would be
unethical, and I have insufficient proof, but I'm sure that you and
Kreutz can figure it out for yourselves.

Good luck, and watch yourselves out there.]<<<<<
